On July 28, just nine hours before having to shut it down, a California appeals court issued a temporary stay against the pull the plug injunction against Napster.

The courts decision does not address the merits of the case. It does however (much to the chagrin of many in the recording industry) allow NAPSTER to conduct business as usual until the case receives a full hearing. A full hearing is likely to occur sometime in the fall.

The record companies are not happy.

The thousands of NAPSTER users, who were on line this morning at 2:00AM west cost time were very happy.

Speaking of happy/not happy...

Here is something that the NAPSTER nemesis RIAA (RECORDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) can not be real happy about:
According to the BOYCOTT THE RIAA website, on July 29, 2000 50.000 (fifty thousand) people sign the Boycott the RIAA petition. That is 50.000 signatures in one day!
